Golf hats are a type of athletic apparel that people wear on their head while they golf. There are two main types: baseball caps and sports visors. Sports visors have a stiff peak but a crownless hat, and are often connected with some type of adjustable strap in the back. Baseball caps have a stiff peak with a soft, rounded crown, and can be fitted or adjustable. While many golfers wear baseball caps, the sports visor is the most popular form of headgear among golfers.
Why They Help Performance
Playing a round of golf can take several hours, which is a long time to be standing out in the sun. Wearing a hat helps protect you from the sun’s rays, preventing your face from getting sunburnt. They also keep the sun out of your eyes, which can be helpful when trying to track your shot after you have hit it. Some golfers prefer to wear a visor while playing because it provides more ventilation at the top of their head. If you are bald, however, the top of your head could get sunburnt, so a baseball cap style may be better.
What are They Made of?
Both visors and baseball caps are made from either polyester or wool. The brim on the hat is made from plastic or some other type of stiff material, while the inside of the hat usually has a cotton sweatband. The adjustable band at the back, if there is one, is usually made of plastic, although it could also be made of Velcro.
Washing and Care Instructions
Playing golf and spending several hours in the sun can cause you to sweat a lot, which can stain your hat and make it smell. Thus, taking care of your hat and cleaning it frequently is important. Before you do anything, make sure you read the tag inside your hat, as it may contain specific instructions on how to wash your hat. If there are no instructions, there are several steps you need to follow to ensure that your hat gets clean and is not damaged in the process. Fill a warm bucket of water with soap and detergent and allow your hat to soak in it for approximately an hour. Next, with a mild detergent and washcloth, wipe any sweat stains any dirt from your hat. You should go over the entire hat during this process, but spend some extra time where the stains are. Next, rinse your hat in cool water to remove any lingering detergent or soap.
Who Makes Them?
While golf clubs are stingy when it comes to upholding specific dress code standards, they are pretty relaxed when it comes to what type of hat you wear. As long as it is a baseball cap or sports visor, you can wear pretty much any brand you want. This includes all the popular athletic brands, such as Nike, Adidas, and Reebok. Many golfers prefer to wear specific golf brands, however. These include Titleist, Callaway and Taylor Made.
Price Range
Golf hats generally come in around $20, although some of the higher-end brands may charge up to $40, depending on the type of hat. Many golfers have multiple hats that they can wear in case one gets dirty.
