Running Shirts

Running Shirts

Running shirts are a type of clothing worn for physical exercise, specifically running. This includes running on the treadmill at the gym, jogging, or running a marathon. There are two main types of running shirts: t-shirts and sleeveless shirts. In addition, runners coping with colder conditions may choose to wear long-sleeve shirts. Running shirts are designed to help improve performance while also ensuring excellent comfort.

Why They Help Performance

Running shirts are typically lightweight, which makes them easier to run in. They must also be loose enough so that a runner’s movement isn’t restricted. Sleeveless shirts and t-shirts are ideal for warmer conditions. Sleeveless shirts allow for greater airflow and ventilation, which keeps you cooler. Almost all running shirts have moisture-wicking fabrics to help wick away sweat and keep you cool. You can also buy shirts that help keep you warm, which is ideal if you are running in colder conditions. These are usually long-sleeve shirts, although some t-shirts also help keep you warm. Ideally, these would be worn over a long-sleeve outfit.

What are They Made of?

Almost all running shits are made out of high-tech fabrics which contain both thermal and moisture-wicking technology. Spandex is a popular material because it can soak up sweat and is often used by runners as a base layer while wearing an athletic shirt and shorts on top. Moisture-wicking fabric is extremely popular because it moves sweat away from the body to the fabric’s outer layer which allows it to evaporate. It is lightweight and stretchy, which makes it a perfect fabric to use for exercise that involves running.

Washing and Care Instructions

Running is fantastic exercise, and will cause you to work up quite a sweat. As such, your running gear, including your running shirt, will get dirty and stinky very quickly. There are many methods you can use to not only get your shirt clean, but help remove any lingering odor. One popular method is to pre-soak the shirt in cold water and white vinegar and allow it to sit for approximately 30 minutes. If you don’t feel comfortable using vinegar, you can use baking soda instead, or specialty detergents designed to help remove odor. Allow your shirt to air out before you throw it in the laundry bag. Before you place it in the machine, turn the shirt inside out. Make sure you use cold water so you don’t damage any of the fabric and avoid using fabric softener. Dry on a low-setting or, ideally, allow the shirt to air dry. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight so the color doesn’t fade.
